*** STWingCS PuTTY HOWTO *** INTRODUCTION The purpose of this HOWTO is to show you how to set up and use the PuTTY SSH Clent to connect to STWingCS servers. REQUIREMENTS Desktop computer running Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP SETUP 1. Obtain putty.exe by downloading it from: http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe 2. click on the putty.exe executable's icon and a configuration dialog will pop up: a. set the "Hostname" to force.stwing.upenn.edu b. set the "Protocol" to SSH c. go to the Connection - SSH tab (last one in the column on the left) d. click the Enable Compression check box e. under "Preferred SSH Version" click "2" f. under "Preferred Crypto Algorothm" click "3DES" g. go back to the top tab (the one you started in at the very top of the column on the left) h. go to the "Saved Sessions" box and type "force.stwing.upenn.edu" into the Session name field, and click save 3. close putty USAGE Click on the putty.exe executable's icon. Then, in the new dialog box, click on force.stwing.upenn.edu in the Saved Sessions box and click on "Load". Then click the open button in the lower left corner. (optional) To make connecting more convient, make a shortcut to putty.exe and in it's properties, and " @force.stwing.upenn.edu" (or whatever you called your session) to the end of the command line, the shortcut will start the session automatically.
