Need a hand with your admissions essays? Trying to make decisions about going to grad school? Let me help you! I can do any or all of the following:
My services have already enabled quite a few people to clarify and achieve their higher education goals. Students I've helped have been accepted at Georgetown, Columbia, University of Michigan, Boston University, Simmons, Lesley, Johns Hopkins, New York University, Tufts, and many other fine schools. They have saved thousands of dollars in tuition and application fees by discovering what they DON'T want to do with their lives. They've experienced a more enjoyable and less stressful application process. They are learning what they want, where they want to be, and then using that education to do their life's work. Okay, it sounds kind of like an infomertial... but it is all true. I like doing this stuff. I like helping folks figure out what they really want and how to get there. I love watching an essay take shape. I love giving the feedback that helps the essay find its shape. Email me now at abstein@alumni.upenn.edu and let's get started! Why should you choose me? My essay about why I wanted to go to UPenn (my alma mater) made an admissions officer cry. An admissions officer from Yale, who then became a college counselor, told me my essay was one of the ten best essays she'd ever read and asked if she could use it as a model for other students. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from UPenn with a B.A. in history, I earned an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson, and I've been published in The Chronicle of Higher Education and many other places. Still not sure? Read my grad school essay and one of my college essays and browse my website and then make up your mind. I prefer to hold an initial or solo session in person at a restaurant or cafe, though additional work can often be done over the phone or email. Since I believe in education for everyone, a portion of my fee will be donated to City of Somerville Dollars for Scholars, the Orphan Foundation of America, and/or the Isef Foundation, whose mission is educating Israel's disadvantaged youth. I work on a sliding scale of $18 to $96 per hour -- within that scale, you decide what to pay based on a combination of what you can afford and what you think my services are worth.
