As explained in Chapter One and the Introduction to Chapter Two, this traditional categorization of age groups makes little sense in the Greek-Cypriot context. Rather, I distinguish three age groups on the basis of people's personal experiences and memories:

First age group: people with personal memories reaching back further than the 1960s (born between 1914 and 1956): 19

Second age group: people with personal memories reaching back to the 1960s only (born in the 1960s): 4

Third age group: people with no personal memories of the time before 1974 (born in the 1970s): 4
