There is an ongoing signature campaign to gather signatures under the article that led to imprisonment of Sener Levent and Memduh Ener in north Cyprus. We the ones whose names and surnames are listed from all over the world, come together under the name of Independent Cyprus Group,on the internet against Rauf Raif Denktas who is seen to be elected as a legal leader which we dont accept and agree with to show how he with the help of Turkish Republic military administration has exposed the Northern Cyprus population to pressure, terror and fascist regime for twenty eight years.
Denktas who is supported by Ankara Government and Turkish Republic consulgeneral and also his regime which has caused the Northern Cypriots to be oppressed for half of the century under the sick, dark, obscure, and out of date ideology, added another oppression onmto others on 9th August 2002 by imprisoning both Memduh Ener who as a writer wrote an article on newspaper called "Afrika" and Sener Levent who is the editor of the same newspaper, for six months by showing that article as a reason to be imprisoned which they think it carries the 'possibility' to damage Denktas on his authority.
We the ones whose names and surnames are listed, do not want to accept this horrible order of pressure and oppression and we do not want to stay calm and insensitive towards all of these. In addition to this, we all agree that the article written by Memduh Ener which caused him and Sener Levent to be imprisoned for six months does not involve any guilt or insult, on the contrast we have decided that the article only carries the part of the reality that includes the inhumane regime of R.R. Denktas and his supporters.
As a result we decided onto write that article again, which caused our two intellectuals(writers) to be imprisoned for six months, under the name of " Campaign of I wrote" to show as a freedom of speech and thought.
