(Cyprus Alternative News):-

A group of youth in the northern part of Cyprus has begun a signature campaign for peace and already reached 10 thousand signatures. In their letter of campaign, they’re calling on their Greek Cypriot compatriots for support and their statement reads as follows:

“Turkish Cypriot People have made up their minds. They want to solve the Cyprus Problem and enter the European Union with their Greek Cypriot compatriots. They have expressed this will by gathering at the Inönü Square at the largest rally of the past 30 years. On Thursday, 26th December over 30 thousand people have shouted with one voice, ‘Peace can not be prevented in Cyprus’. A petition for peace has also been started at the rally and has already reached 10 thousand signatures. In its first two days the petition has received wide support from many Turkish Cypriots living all over the world. The petition is planned to continue till the 7th January 2003. Now it’s your turn to show Turkish Cypriots and the world that they are not alone in their struggle, that both peoples on the island will plant the seeds for peace together and live on a reunited island. Give peace a chance with a signature.

To contribute to the campaign, please send your names, cities and ID numbers (optional) to imzakampanyasi@yahoo.co.uk or to imzakampanyasi@hotmail.com.  We would also appreciate it if you could help us disseminate this by forwarding this message to your contacts.

Not immigrating from Cyprus,

Not missing the final chance, 28th February 2003.

We, as Greek Cypriots support our Turkish Cypriot compatriots’ cry for peace and wish to live peacefully together on a reunited EU member island.”
