More on the Controls at Green-Line

Yesterday, I  wrote about the restrictions that are going to be imposed in bringing milk and meat products to north through the Green Line. Akinci has questioned the motives behind this act at the parliament. Sonay Adem replied to him and I guess decided to prove my point. The interesting point in his reply was to claim that most of the minced meat from south is not from beef. His implication is clear even though it was not clearly spelled out in Yeniduzen report; he wants to make people suspicious that it contains pork and therefore, they would not want to eat it anyway. Well, first of all, this silly statement shows how desperate they are to justify their actions. Somewhere in their consciousness they know very well that what they are doing is akin to being a "neo-denktashist" rather than the self-proclaimed title of a progressive, modern left they claim to be. First of all, I do not believe that Sonay Adem or any authority has checked what crosses to north ever-- remember, the pathetic list they put out yesterday? One of the items was to build statistics! Second, the silliness about not eating pork is not something to be promoted but rather something that a progressive, modern, leftist person should discourage by being informative about it. Third, in the same speech Adem talks about the poor conditions of meat industry in north and everyone knows how uncontrolled, corrupt, unhygenic, backwards it is anyway. Compare that to  a place that at least adheres to EU norms.
