* Leader: Dr Dervish Eroglu
*History of the party (Please be brief):
Founded on 11.10.1975 by R.R Denktash and 51 other co.founders Has been in government until December 1993 general elections. Main opposition since then. Represented by 15 MP's out of 50 in present parliament
* Political Affinity (e.g left/right/or else):Right
Please use either standardised names (e.g bi-zonal federation) with brief elaboration on details or give detailed description. If neccessary use additional sheet (s) of paper.
* What kind of solution to the Cyprus Problem do you support/propose?
We Propose a confederal solution. Bi-zonality, bi-communality ,absolute political equality of the two communities, separate sovereignty rights of the two communities and Turkey's effective guarantee are a must to any solution.
* What kind of solution to the Cyprus Problem do you expect to take place?
If the present attitude of the International community continues ,the Greek Cypriots will not have any incentive to negotiate for any other solution. The International COmmunity and specifically the United Nations security council, has been recognising the illegal, unconstitutional Greek Cypriot regime as the government of Cyprus, representing the whole of the island,i.e Republic of Cyprus, for the last thirty one years. Whereas, the Republic of Cyprus was a partnership republic of Turkish and Greek Cypriots, and was destroyed by force of arms by Greek Cypriots in December 1963 for uniting Cyprus with Greece. Turkey's guarantee and firm resistance against union of Cyprus with Greece prevented Cyprus from being colonised by Greece.
The Greek Cypriots being recognised as the representative of the Republic of Cyprus are ripping all the benefits that come with recognition. The Greek Cypriots have been enriching themselves at the cost of Turkish Cypriots. All foreign aid, technical or financial aid that comes to Cyprus is being used exclusively for the benefit of Greek Cypriots. Because of this one-sided discriminatory attitude of the International Community income per capita on the Greek side has reached $14,000 , whereas income per capita of the Turkish Cypriots is less then $3000.
Under these circumstances the Greek Cypriots will never have the need to establish a partnership with the Turkish Cypriots. Hence, two separate states; a Turkish Cypriot state and a Greek Cypriot state seems the inevitable solution.
* Views about the problem of non-Cypriot settlers.
We do not see any settlers problem in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). As any sovereign state TRNC has the right to grant citizenship to those foreigners who fullfill the neccessary requirements.
* Views about the problem of movement, ownership and settlement.
If a solution is found there will be freedom of movement with the exception of Greek Cypriot EOKA people who massacred Turkish Cypriots between 1963-74. Ownership and settlement will be regulated with the legislation of each state.
* Views about the problem of missing persons.
There are no missing persons in Cyprus. This is an artificial problem created by the Greek Cypriots. There is no a single Greek Cypriot alive, that is being held either in TRNC or Turkey.
* Views about the problem of extremists of any kind in both communities, and how to tack- le the possible problems that might arise Trom them in case of a solution.
There are many Greek Cypriot extremists at present in South Cyprus. Those exremists will not be allowed to cross to North Cyprus. Greek Cypriots will have the same right to prevent any T/C, that they feel is an extremist, to cross to the South.
* Views about the security concerns of both communities. What kind of a legal system, po- lice force, guarantees etc would / should be used to tackle this problem? Also, include emotional concerns.
Turkish Cypriots will NEVER accept a solution without Turkey's Guarantee. Turkey's Guarantee is a must. Greek Cypriots can also have Greece as their Guarantor power. We would like a more effective Turkish guarantee than the 1960 guarantee agreement. We would like a greater Turkish contingengy force than the 1960 agreed number so that it defer G/Cs from attacking and masacring T/Cs for the unending obsession of unifying Cyprus with Greece and colonising T/Cs.
* What kind of system do you propose/support as the military system of the island in case of a solution and also for the present situation? Please specifically give the views regarding foreign armies and the Cypriot army itself, plus the type of military service in future.
We do not regard the Turkish army as a foreign army. Turkish army liberated us from Greek and G/C tyranny. Turkish army is our saviour. Therefore Turkish army will continue to be our guarantee for the future. Regarding Cypriot army and military service, those are details to be negotiated.
* How do you view the ethnical construction of island? Please specifically mention the vi- ews about a possible Cypriot culture, and ethnical identities (e. g Turkish and Greek com- munities vs T/C and G/C communities).
Turkish and Greek Cypriots lived in the same island for more than four hundreds years. During those four hundred years there has been virtually no inter-marriage. The two communities kept to their own language, religion, custons, culture and ethnical identities. IT seems that same will continue.
* What could/should be done to tackle the issue of emigrants to foreign countries?
Cyprus, being an island, has its immigration problems. International and foreign investment is needed to create business and job opportunities for our Young people.
* Views of the party regarding the present and future economy of Cyprus (of both communities), including the economic structure of Cyprus in case of a solution. Ple- ase state what kind of a solution you are refering to in the answer.
We are firm belivers in liberal economy based on free competition.
* Views of the party regarding the issue of the accesion of Cyprus (or part of it etc) to the European Union, including what kind of accesion it would ideally and possibly be. (E.g before a solution as two communities under the name of Cyprus Republic)
We will ONLY ACCEPT accession to the EU, after a solution is found and Turkey has also became a full member of the EU.
* Does the party support bi-communal activities such as youth get togethers, and if so what kind of activites would it suggest for future, and what kind of activities did it so far participate/ organise. If not, please explain why.
We will support bicommunal activites provided they take place on equal basis. Greek Cypriots always exploited these activites for their own end. We suggest a bi-communal comittee to scrutinise books in order to create objectional material.
* General aims/policies/activities of the party. (Possibly extracts or a summary of the party program not stated so far)
