The next day we woke up at 4:30am and were off on the trail by 5:30am. We saw a beautiful sunrise on the trail and hiked through the Ebersbacher Ledges to Lower Boy Scout Lake by 7am. Along the way we met a trio of Russians - Irina, Andrei and Sergei - who joined us in our ascent of Whitney.

Together we headed up to Upper Boy Scout Lake. Unfortunately Irina, Andrei and Sergei got separated from us, and so Carina and I made the trip alone. We cruised up the slabs and bumped into Brian at the lake. After chatting about his journey, we headed off to Iceberg Lake.

Halfway to Iceberg, Carina was tiring, and so we took a little break and ate lunch. Our Russian friends caught up to us by then and they, too, took a little break. A little after 12pm we hit Iceberg Lake. As we examined the route up the chute, we sat and chatted with Irina, Andrei, and Sergei. Carina was feeling tired from the hike and so we relaxed at the lake for extended break. Irina, Andrei, and Sergei decided to turn back at this point because they had to work the next day.

At 1:30pm, Carina and I made our way up the chute alone. Because of the scree, we stayed right on the class 3 blocks which made the ascent a little easier. Midway through the chute, Carina started to feel the effects of altitude. Our progress and pace significantly decreased by then. She started laboring and had to stop and rest after few feet before continuing.

Despite the altitude sickness, Carina was determined to continue and so we forged on through the chute. We arrived at the famed notch in time to meet the lady from the day before. With about 250 feet to go, we helped her up the notch and started to ascend ourselves. By this time, Carina was really feeling the pain. With every 10 steps she had to sit and rest for 10 minutes, otherwise she would vomit. We continued like this until we made it up the summit. By that time it was 7pm. It took up 3 hours from the notch to the summit!
