Meeting Minutes for November 17, 1999

Members present: Maria, Christina, Heather, Leigh.

The flyers are set to go out- they have Maria and Heather's e-mail addresses on them for contacts. (No need for phone #s- we don't need to be harrassed.) About 150 copies will be made, and can be posted on campus, mostly in/around the dorms and on kiosks. (We should e-mail each other to decide on locations for posting.) Leigh will also post to several newsgroups announcing the meeting. [It was also mentioned that we should eventually find out about the regulations at Penn for chalking the Walk and for posting things on campus.]

The flyers will be posted (most likely) on the day after Thanksgiving, and the Monday and Tuesday before the meeting. We don't want them covered up, but also want to give people enough time to see them and set aside time to come to the meeting. We'll see how this approach works, and how many people it brings out. If it stays just being our small group, then so be it. We'll be happy with anyone who wants to join.

The meeting date is Wednesday, Dec. 1st, and we'll meet at Chats at 8 pm. This will be the first organized meeting of "Pennpagans", and should involve people who've seen the flyers. We realize that it may be difficult to get Penn students/faculty/staff to come out of their "broom closets", but hopefully we will have a decent turnout.

The meeting time/info will be given to Bob for the DVPN announcements, and to Ellen for the Broom Closet.

We then speculated on how cool it would be to get the message out in other ways; namely, using purple crepe paper to make a pentacle out of the Button. Perhaps this could be a possibility for Pagan Pride 2000, but for now it's just a neat image in our heads.

Now, what should we do for the meeting? It was agreed that a general blessing, along with a statement of intent, would be useful in helping to bring positive energy to the group. It dawned on us that lighting candles in Chats may not be a great idea, so it was decided that we could hold the regular chatting part of our initial meeting indoors, and then take it outside for those who wish to join us in our simple not-any-particular-path ritual.

Food was briefly discussed for this and later meetings, but since we are unsure of how many people will appear, we decided not to buy pizzas or anything like that for the next meeting. This may change along with our funding and group size for later meetings.

We will also have to plan for next semester and decide what we're going to do then. We should also decide whether it would be worth trying to have another meeting in December with the new people that will be involved.

Leigh will set up a webpage on her site with meeting minutes from this and past meetings. We can eventually add on our mission statement/charter to this page, and perhaps link to this page from other places, such as DVPN or the Broom Closet.
