Where To Stay

Since the “Velvet Revolution” of 1989, Prague has become one of the most visited cities in Europe. Despite the overwhelming build up, the city is still struggling to meet the demand for accommodations. Unfortunately there is little for the budget traveler.  Therefore we researched the “value” opportunities that are mainly driven by the “apartment” style accommodations in the heart of Prague, while suggesting other options as well. Our tip for your travel agent: if it’s close to the metro station you should be close to everything.  The most central locations are in Praha 1 and Praha 2 (city zones, Prague in the Czech language is Praha).

The two best-kept accommodations secrets are apartment style living with the flare of Bed & Breakfast hospitality.

Both are located in Praha 2, near the Namesti Miru (Piece Square) metro station. Properties features:

·          Elegant design and furniture

·          Fully equipped kitchens

·          24 hours reception and security staff

·          Clothes washing facilities in many apartments

·          Transformation to and from the airport

·          Extra bed available for your guests

·         Delivery of newspapers, DVDs, videos, flowers, food, etc.

·         Weekly housekeeping or as requested

·        Reservations (restaurants, theater tickets, transportation, etc.)

Where else to look?

If you like to stay in the very center, close to all the main sights and shops, we would recommend staying around Vaclavske Namesti (Wenceslas Square), Praha 1. Here you are in the heart of the city and the prices reflect that.

Another popular area is the nearby Namesti Republiky, but the best area is around Staromestke Namesti (Old Town Square), a few minutes walk to Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Jewish Quarter, Churches, etc. Hotels here include large, international establishments, old-fashioned Czech places, and some small, much more exclusive hotels. Some of the hotels in this area are:

·         IntercontinentalNamesti Curieovych 43, 110 00 Praha 1

§         A good example of a five-star hotel. Many of the rooms have lovely views over the river at Prague Castle.

·         U Tri PstrosuDrazickeho namesti 12, 110 00 Praha 1

§         Just besides the Charles Bridge, the hotel “At The Three Ostriches” is best-known hotel/restaurant in Prague. Family-run, the place has a special, intimate atmosphere. Has an excellent reputation.

·         EsplanadeWashingtonova 10, 110 00 Praha 1

§         Just off Wenceslas Square, the hotel has high ceilings with some glorious Art Nouveau features. One of the restaurants stays open till 2 a.m., extremely useful after operas or concerts, and very unusual for Prague.
