For those who didn't know, Desert Island Discs (or "DID's") is a listing of 10 or 20 discs you would take with if by chance stranded on a desert island, knowing fully well (with plenty of advance notice of course) that you will be in this predicament with time to choose the cds and the nessesary stereo equipment to play them on. Ok, so it's completely hypothetical, but it makes for an interesting look at a cd collection. Without further ado, here's mine. ** Disclaimer **: The actual number that I've assigned to the albums loses its significance after about 10. I listen to different albums to complement different moods and they could always change anytime. This is just the best approximation. |

1. The Cure: Disintegration Words simply can not do justice to what this album means to me. It's the apex of all modern musical brilliance IMHO. By far my favorite album of all time. I come back to it time and time again only to find that I love it more and more. The Cure have their best line up of their career. Every lyric, every note, every beat, and every stroke of the keyboard is perfect. This is Robert Smith's masterpiece and will forever have a place in my heart. |

2. The Verve: A Northern Soul The amount of sheer emotion on this album is unparalleled (except for Disintegration). Nick McCabe is at his most creative. Richard Ashcroft's lyrics can make you weep. The best rhythm section in the world backs them up. This album proves the Verve are the best at what they do in every aspect. The music ranges from loud and heavy songs to touching ballads to spaced out jams, to pure sonic experimentation: all done with so much passion it's almost overwhelming at first. This is indeed music! |

3. Kitchens Of Distinction: The Death Of Cool Julain Swales takes guitars in swirly, glittery, sparkling directions on their 3rd album. KoD have original lyrics, wonderful basslines and incredible drumming. |

7. Buffalo Tom: Sleepy Eyed Poppy guitar with a lot of energy. This sets the standard for what well written, infectious music is. These guys rock! |

4. Slowdive: Souvlaki Guitars have never sounded as soaring, loud, and echoey. Not only have they achieved this amazing guitar sound but they have it interwoven with beautiful, haunting melodies. |

8. Curve: Cuckoo These guys did what Garbage did years before it was cool. Intense, crashing guitars meet industrial rhythms and Toni Halliday's wonderful singing. |

5. Radiohead: OK Computer Creativity in rock music hasn't been achieved like this since Pink Floyd were in their hey day. Radiohead have shown us how powerful music can be when it's well thought out. |
| 9. The Charlatans UK: The Charlatans UK These guys have taken off where the Stones left off in 1969. You can dance to this, it rocks, and there's plenty of that trademark Hammond organ all over. Rock has never sounded so uplifting! |

6. The Beatles: Revolver I don't think I need to explain to anyone how important this band is. This album is my particular favorite because it's right in between their early simpler pop songs and their more progressive later material. |

10. Cocteau Twins: Milk and Kisses The Cocteau Twins have the trademark gorgeous guitar sound: smooth, silky, loud, with plenty of reverb and chorus. Plus Liz Fraser's vocal powers are in a class of their own. |
