An Introduction
Well, so you've decided to come visit here! Thanks for taking the time to drop
by! In case you don't already know, my name is Richard Kuo. I'm about to
graduate from the University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees in Electrical Engineering
(focusing on Microelectronic Circuits and Systems) and Business Management.
Hopefully, you're here because you're looking to hire somebody like me (you'll probably
want to look at my qualifications first, though).
Primarily, I'm looking for positions in the engineering field (electrical/computer
science) or in the IT industry. Although my majors are EE and Management, I've had
enough internships and work experience over the past few years to know that I adapt to
most jobs very quickly and that I have enough background knowledge in almost every field
to get me off the ground running. If you have a job opening which you feel I might
fit or which is related to my interests, by all means, please let me know!
And, of course, I run this web page, The
Silicon Edge. This web page reflects my own personal interests, which means I
mostly keep visitors up to date on the latest developments in the computer hardware and
software industry as well as review interesting products and technologies. Of
course, I can put anything I want here, since it IS my page. The front page alone
has had over 170,000 visitors and over 750 people drop by each day to keep current with
today's technology and to learn something new. I know that it is often hard for an
employer to judge the strength or qualifications of a candidate from just the things
listed on his resume. I believe that this page reflects the totality of my
experience better than any resume can.
I've also gotten a lot of opportunities to talk with and give advice to people I
probably would never have met otherwise. Occasionally I even get hardware to review
from companies, which is fun and informative for both me and my readers and gives me a
chance to talk to people from different parts of the industry. It's been quite an
interesting experience.
From my own personal experience, you rarely know much about a job until you've had a
chance to actually be in it. Your skills depend not only on what you know now, but
how quickly you can learn what you need to know later. If you can't tell, I may know
a lot now, but I absorb new concepts even faster. I've taken a lot of time to learn
a lot about all kinds of different technologies, ranging from MPEG audio and video
compression standards to TCP/IP networking protocols to circuit design and layout...the
list goes on and on. These new technologies aren't just work to me...I like learning
about and experimenting with new things. I know that my personal commitment to
expanding my own knowledge will be a great asset to any company that I work for.
Thanks for your time! And now, you may proceed to the boring stuff. :-)
If you are interested in contacting me about a job opening, just mail me at rkuo@eniac.seas.upenn.edu to let me know.
