StarCraft not in manufacturing yet...
Blizzard denied reports that the game had gone to manufacturing yet, although they did say it would be within a few days.  Usually I trust Next Gen on these things, but oh well.  A couple of days more won't hurt anybody.

MPEG-4 Audio
I'm still working on this project.  I think I fixed a bug that was causing the AAC decoder to crash, but stereo output sounds like hell.  Actually, they all sound like hell.  I wish I could get a solid reference bitstream so I could determine whether the problem is the encoder or the decoder.

NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 slated for June
Although the focus of the article is the new Security Configuration Editor that will be included in SP4, we do also get some info on a release date...late June.   Looking at all the hotfixes that are out for SP3 right now, it would be nice if we could get it a little sooner.

New instructions in Deschutes
Apparently Intel has included two new instructions in the Deschutes line of Pentium II's.  The new instructions, FXSAVE and FXRSTOR, are used to quickly save and restore the state of the floating-point registers.  Supposedly this will come in handy for multiple threads of execution where a lot of context-switching is going on.

Verbatim DataLife Plus CD-R's
We just got a shipment of these in on Monday and after using a few, I'm totally impressed.  I've tried a couple of discs and they are working damn near perfectly on everything I've tried, including my CD player and even my PlayStation, whose drive I thought was broken!  Highly recommended.  I ordered our batch from Media Source.

Gran Turismo
Have you seen this game?  The cars are awesome looking and the physics of the cars is the most realistic I've ever seen in a console driving game...or a computer game, for that manner.  I mean, the suspension of the cars actually reacts when you hit bumps or take hard turns.  Not only that, reflection mapping moves along the surface of the cars, which creates a really cool and realistic effect.  I'll write more about the game later...still playing around with it.   There are so many options that it's just crazy.

Riva 128 ZX
nVidia has announced a new revision of their popular Riva 128 chipset, the Riva 128 ZX.  The most important changes seem to be slightly faster speed, AGP 2X support and the ability to address up to 16MB (8MB framebuffer, 8MB texture).

Creative Labs' Voodoo 2 cards are popping up in Electronics Boutique's all over the place.  Some people even got them on Saturday!  Wonder if they are worth the bucks?

Sample shots from the Konica Q-Mini
If you want to see some sample shots I made, check out http://www.stwing.upenn.edu/~rkuo/pics.html.   Pretty good quality, don't you think?  The first batch was taken in fine quality, the second in normal.  Not really much of a difference, to tell you the truth.

Note:  I'm not the big guy.  :-)
