Dan Chadwick's TweakIt site is supposed to have benchmarks and some firsthand experience with an alpha run of a 440LX based chipset board up tonight. Keep checking. 2:57 PM Just in case you didn't download the MPG I posted yesterday, you HAVE to check it out. It's the most heinous car crash I've ever seen. Just imagine you're the dude sitting in the red car at the stop light. HAHAHA Yes, I know I'm being insensitive, but hey, cut me a little slack on this one. It's 6.9MB. This is a port of the Nintendo 64 game to PC...although it's a Direct3D game, it only suppors 3Dfx, Rendition, and Permedia 2 chipsets.

Man you have got to see this, it is so cool (objectively speaking). I capped this with my Rainbow Runner, pretty cool, huh? It's an MPEG.
bigcrash.mpg - 3.63 MB This new PCI card is supposedly able to capture MPEG-1 (352x240) in realtime along with audio. Is it too good to be true? Sounds pretty cool but I don't really know anybody who needs to capture MPEG-1 in realtime. You either want to output to tape, in which case you need better hardware, or you are doing digital content authoring, in which case you either need to spend more or you are an amateur who needs to spend less. Anyhow, check it out here. Definitely one of the best sites on the web for pure MPEG information. Some good technical articles too, you might be able to understand them if you stare at them long enough. :-) According to this article, Netscape is planning to once again separate Navigator from Communicator, its applications suite, and create a streamlined browser. It's about damn time. Netscape is a crappy mail reader and a crappy news reader. I wanted those features out of there from day 1. Like I would use Netscape rather than Agent to read news...get real!
There's a nice free utility out which will allow you to change your MTU, TCP Receive Window and TTL settings in Win95 easily. Not like the damn cheesy utility from NetPros who had a nice page until they removed all the info and started charging $10 for a utility. Screw you, guys, this one is free! This utility isn't guaranteed to help your transfers. It actually slows me down. Do some good testing before and after.

Somebody asked about the possibility of having a clan logo next to your name on Battle.net. Blizzard replied:
Yes, we intend to put clan emblems next to names on Battle.net. We
haven't programmed it yet so I can't tell you definitively how it
will work. However, it's unlikely that you'll be able to draw
anything you want and display it next to your name, simply because we
know from experience that a lot of people would draw graphic
depictions of body parts. (Remember what the forums were like when
we used to allow people to post graphics.)
So probably, there will be a set of graphic pieces (lines, letters,
symbols) that you'll be able to color and put together to form your
clan logo.
Mike Recently I've been toying with the idea of making my own Video CD's. Now this would be a cool integration of everything I've put together. The idea of video in a digital format with no degradation possible due to viewing or recording is also really cool. If only DVD's were recordable! Anyhow, here's a link to Yahoo's info on Video CD's. And for good measure, take a gander at Xing Technology, whose software-based encoder for MPEG is now, at version 2.0, the best software MPEG encoder I've ever used. It's really cool. The best utility for encoding your .mp3 files is right here. Supports long filenames, list processing and a bunch of goodies. This is V2.1 beta 2 as of today.

New information has recently surfaced about this eagerly awaited real-time strategy in the form of Blizzard reps popping up on the Starcraft forum on Battle.net. A lot of good info and about ten times more begging for info. I personally have been pushing for support for high resolutions (800x600, 1024x768). If you ever played War2, you know the screen can never get big enough. Go over there and tell Blizzard how important this feature is! True to its grass-roots supporters, 3Dfx has released these drivers for Linux as well. Let's see what they can come up with!

It looks like the merger is a bit of NS wanting to get into the system-on-a-chip market (like for Net PC's and appliances). The man who created the godsend of the emulation scene known as NESticle has created another emulator, Genecyst. Apparently he also has a penchant for gross names. How long has this emulator been out, anyways? I revised the hardware section slightly and added two new sections. The Perfect System contains my thoughts on what I would put in a system (I'm always keeping this info in my head anyway so why not write it down) and BomberCop is the name of my computer. The Perfect System section is not complete but the most important parts are there, and it replaces my "What to Buy" section because, let's face it, this is what you should buy! The info may need to be slightly revised given the recent price drop from Intel...we'll see. What a shocker! It's too early to speculate about what this means for Cyrix or NS, but read the details here. While this card originally looked to be the holy grail of 3D cards, it's turned out to be a lot of headaches and trouble for a lot of people, with bad NT support and slower or flat out incompatible game releases. Will the new drivers help? Let's hope so.
http://www.hercules.com/support/drivers/stingray/s1283d/default.htm This is really old news, and I'm just posting it for the hell of it. This is the patch for the multiplayer cheat that got released a while back for the original War2 (without expansion). But hell, if you play multiplayer you've almost certainly got the expansion.
For a full review of past, present and future expected pricing on Intel's line of microprocessors, refer to Net Express's CPU page. 10:54 AM If you want to look at some of this stuff, try PowerOn. This theme is from the section of Dracula's Castle called "Olrox's Room". Definitely one of my favorites...if you were in a castle like Dracula's, this music might make you a little nervous. :-) | |||||||||||||||||||||
