ESSAYS
In addition to reviews, over the years I've written a handful of essays
about the show that haven't been pegged to a specific episode. These
include:
- Thanks for the memories,
Jimmy - An
appreciation of Jimmy Smits' tenure on the show. (Written April 20,
1998)
- Welcome aboard, Det. Rick
- My initial reaction to the then-controverisal casting of Rick Schroder
(Written June 17, 1998)
- Homicide vs. NYPD
Blue - Just what the title suggests: a comparison of each cop show
as each looked back in the latter half of the 1995-96 TV season.
- Alan takes a break - The
announcement of my decision to stop writing the weekly summary/reviews.
Midway through season two, Blue fan Gardner Trask wrote a very
funny satire of how formulaic the
scripts had gotten. The names may have changed, but a lot of the structure
hasn't. Take a look.
